Building A Christ Centred Community
A Bi t Of Hi s tor y
St. John’s Wood Road Baptist Church began meeting in the mid 1820’s. It was started by a group of 30 or so Christians, and in it’s first 50 years knew God’s blessing in many ways growing to over 400 members. In the early 1900’s the church moved to the site it now occupies, and began meeting in the present building in 1987. In the first part of the 1900’s the church was very active in missionary endeavor sending missionaries to India in particular. However from the Second World War the number of people meeting together in the church declined as it has in many other places.
Our Pr e s ent And Fu tur e
We are now a small but growing fellowship that is drawn together by the continuing love of God that comes to us through Jesus Christ. Our desire is to be a Christ centered community in everyway; filled with the knowledge of God’s will, abounding in love and reaching out into the community to share that love with practical as well as spiritual concern.
We continue to look carefully at the different things we do, wanting always to be
gospel driven. The Lord tells us in the Scriptures that his word is living and active,
sharper than any two-
It is in God’s word that God reveals himself to us, who he is, what he is like, how we can relate to him. All of this he does supremely through the Lord Jesus Christ. God’s word reveals to us the good news about Jesus Christ—known to Christians as the gospel. The gospel opens the way not only to understand but to also receive God’s great love, poured into our hearts by the Holy Spirit. (You can also visit the Christianity Explored website. We run this excellent course at our church.)
It is a joy to be able to welcome children among us and the start of the Sunday morning
meeting is geared specifically for them. We then have Children’s Church for 2-
Whatever reason you may visit, and for however long, it will be great to welcome you. Please make yourself known, send us an email. Our prayer for all visitors is that you will be blessed by the Lord Jesus whilst you are with us and that you would feel both welcome and at home among us. If you have any questions please ask.
